TULA • review

I’m so excited to finally give my thoughts on some TULA skincare items that I have. I own the purifying facial cleanser, exfoliating mask, and the illuminating face serum. I wanted to use the line a good amount of time before posting and seeing how my skin would react. A brief overview about TULA is that the brand name stands for balance. Balance is something that my skin needs to get together because my oils tend to be out of control! This line’s claim to fame is that all of their products incorporate probiotic skincare technology. All TULA products contain: probiotics, nutripeptides, vitamins A E + C, anti-oxidants, and omega 3 + 6 fatty acids.

What is is probiotic skincare technology? It helps against undesired, external bacteria and protects the skin against negative environmental influences. The actives stimulate production of vital defense cells making the skin more stress resistant to harmful influences.

Purifying Facial Cleanser: comes in a creamy gel-like form. I would say the consistency is similar to the Purity Made Simple, however, it is a bit thicker.  I love this cleanser because it foams a lot and that’s something that my oily skin needs. This product states that it is suitable for all skin types, which I do believe to be true. It thoroughly cleanses the skin without stripping it of any necessary oils. The smell of this cleanser threw me off a little at first. I can’t put my finger on the scent, but think of the spa mixed with a fresh spring waterfall. It’s not bad, but I did have to get used to it. I am able to remove all of my facial makeup with this cleanser, cake face and all – I haven’t tried removing my eye makeup because I’m scared that due to the smell it might burn. Overall, I do think this is a great clarifying cleanser for all skin types and I do recommend it if you’re wanting to try something new!

Exfoliating Treatment Mask: this has become a staple in my weekly skincare routine and is seriously a game changer! I did talk a little bit about this mask and the Illuminating Face Serum in my Rainy Day Mini Pamper Session post. This little baby provides both a chemical and physical exfoliation of my skin. It’s a clay mask, which again, is perfect for my oily skin. The jar says to use 2-3 times a week for 5 minutes each time. I’m a rule breaker, and I probably leave mine on a good 15-20 minutes and I haven’t had any harmful side effects. I do notice a difference in my oily production during the week if I implement this mask into my routine.

Illuminating Face Serum: is my favorite product of the bunch! It really is hard, because it’s very close between this and the mask. I just feel that this serum has truly given me the most results so far. Due to my skin being oily and acne-prone I have suffered from breakouts throughout my teenage years and early 20’s. Being 24 now, I still get occasional breakouts – I swear they will never stop, thank you Mother Nature. I have some dark spots related to post-acne scaring on my face. Over the years they have been able to fade slowly on their own, but this serum has drastically sped up the process! I have noticed a huge difference in my skin over the last month and a half. I use one pump day and night, right after the shower or cleansing my face and it fully hydrates my skin within 60 seconds. This serum is universal depending on your skin type. It can be used before a moisturizer, as a moisturizer, and even as a primer. I can honestly say it has replaced my moisturizer completely 6 days out of the week, because the hydration that I get from this is just as great as what my Philosophy Take a Deep Breath was giving me. I love, love, love this product and if you can try any of these mentioned I highly suggest this one.

If you’re not wanting to splurge on the full sizes of these products on QVC, then you could pick up the Discovery Kit. The kit will not contain the mask, but it will have smaller sizes of the serum, cleanser, eye cream, and the hydrating day/night cream. I have yet to try the face and eye cream, but I’m dying to get my hands on them!*

Have you tried anything from the TULA line? If so, what are your thoughts? What are your favorite skincare products?

Sweat Proof • Summer Makeup

When I have an event to go to outdoors in the summer the last thing that I want to worry about is my makeup sliding around my greasy face. I don’t have time for that and neither do you. I know that in this situation I need to break out the products that aren’t going to fail me.

Eyes: Priming the eyelids is key to making sure that the shadows won’t budge. My favorite primer is by Lorac that comes complimentary with my Lorac PRO and Unzipped Gold palettes. Featured for this post is the 35W palette by Morphe Brushes. I love this palette because it’s so versatile and inexpensive – and has a nice mix of shimmer, matte, and satin shades! For liner, the Maybelline Master Precise has been my go-to for quite some time. I love that it’s in pen form with a felt tip, it’s a fool-proof way to create a simple line or a dramatic cat eye. To finish off my eyes, I’ll use my holy grail mascara which is the L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black. This mascara is buildable, separates the lashes, and has extreme volume.Base: Priming my face is key to making sure that my makeup will not budge. My favorite high-end primer is the Hourglass Mineral Veil. This primer leaves my skin so smooth and silky, it fills in all my pores and gives an airbrushed finish to the skin. For foundation, I’m going to bust out my Sephora Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation. If you haven’t heard about this little gem then you’re missing out. This has been referred to as a dupe for the Dior Airflash Spray Foundation which retails at a whopping $62. I love this foundation, because it lasts all day and gives my skin a nice satin to matte finish on it’s own. The can says:

Quick and easy professional airbrush results at home! Instablend pigment technology helps color blend seamlessly, creating a smooth, even and flawless matte satin finish. *Oil-free, 10 hour wear, waterproof, non-comedogenic, france-free, dermatologically tested, no parabens, and no mineral oil.

Once this spray foundation has set, I’ll dust a light power over top for extra oil control. I will continue with my bronzer and blush as normal and set my face with the Urban Decay DeSlick.

Lips: To be sure that my lipstick will stay, I first like to line my lips. Lately, I’ve been obsessing over the Essence Cosmetics liners, because they’re so inexpensive and pigmented! You can purchase these babies at Ulta for around $1.50 and they’re worth every penny. I do have a full review on these liners with swatches that you can read here. For lipstick, I will definitely reach for my favorite nude by Milani Cosmetics from their Moisture Matte collection in the shade Matte Naked. For my darker skin, this color is the perfect “my lips but better” shade. I’ve done a more in depth review on a few shades in the collection + swatches that can be read here. A gloss at this point is optional.

Have you tried any of the products listed? If so, what are your thoughts? What are some of your go-to products to create a long lasting makeup look?

Drugstore • Simple + Quick

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone has a great weekend planned and the weather is beautiful wherever you are. The weather here is gorgeous and we have NO plans today, which are the best plans to have. We might head to a local art festival today, but we will see!

I know that when you’re in a hurry and only have between 5-10 minutes to do your makeup, you’re not going to want to use your good high-end makeup to just slap on some look. More than likely, you’ll use your cheaper finds to accomplish a fast face. Here are MY go-to products that I use to accomplish a fast and simple daytime look that gets me out the door when I need to be.

1. Primer now if you’re an oily girl like me you know you can’t skip this step! My favorite primer from the drugstore is Rimmel Stay Matte. It’s perfect for laying down a matte base and filling in some large pores!

2. BB Cream I have been loving a lightweight makeup look, especially for work. I don’t want to look like I have 100lbs of makeup on, but I’m not exactly blessed enough to roll out of bed and show up either. I have some small post acne scaring that needs a little love. I’ve been using the Garnier BB Cream for Combination/Oily Skin. This is one of the best options for BB creams that I’ve found for oily skin. I know that Garnier has a Skin Perfector for those with dry to normal skin as well. I’m interested in trying the It Cosmetics CC Cream – any thoughts?

3. Conceal my dark undereyes with my holy grail drugstore concealer, the Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser! I have done a full review on my favorite concealers (drugstore and high-end) that can be read here. This was my first concealer I ever purchased and I’m so happy I did.

4. Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder to set my BB cream once it’s dry. I’ve done a full review on this powder plus the liquid foundation that you can read here if you’d like a more in-depth review. I will say in my original post I wasn’t too impressed with this powder, but I do think my opinion has changed a bit! It’s really growing on me, but I’m still not 100% sure if I would repurchase it.

5. Blush up my cheeks by sweeping on the extremely pigmented Milani Baked Blush in the shade Bella Rosa. These little blushes are such a great buy, and I haven’t even made a dent in mine yet because I need such little product. This pink shade gives me the perfect flushed look!

6. Mascara of course I reach for my Loreal Voluminous in Carbon Black. The formula is so perfect and buildable if necessary and the brush is so full of bristles. If you’re in the market for a new mascara and have never tried this one, definitely give it a go!

7. Brow Game I did purchase a new product that I kept hearing great things about! I picked up the Loreal Brow Stylist Plumper in medium to dark. I love the little brush that this comes with, it’s perfect for getting in between sparse hairs and very natural looking.

There you have it! My simple and quick drugstore makeup look. Have you tried any of these products? If so, what are your thoughts? What are some of your favorite drugstore items?

Rainy Day Mini Pamper Session

Today is such a dreary day it makes me want to sit inside in cozy clothes and watch Netflix all day. Both of those will definitely be happening, but my plan for the rest of the evening will be to give myself a little pamper session!

Pampering Tools:

Tula Exfoliating Treatment Mask: this mask is my absolute favorite face mask that I’ve ever used! I can not say enough amazing things about it. I do plan to do a full review in a few weeks, but so far my face is loving this! This mask is clay based – perfect for my oily skin beauties – but at the same time it’s hydrating as well, so it’s great for all skin types! When I’ve finished with this mask my face is extremely soft and smooth and it just feels like it can breathe again!

L’oreal Nail Color: in the shade 114 Rainy, could there be a more perfect name for this occasion? I love the L’oreal polishes and to me they’re like little dupes for Essie! I know everyone is going bright for spring, but with this weather and my rebelliousness I’m gonna go dark.

Tula Illuminating Face Serum: now I know what you’re thinking. “She has oily skin why would she use that illuminating serum!?” You guys. This stuff rocks! Full review will be coming soon, but this serum deeply hydrates my skin and sinks within minutes. It isn’t greasy at all, otherwise you know I wouldn’t be using it. It’s a magical bottle of goodness. It’s the perfect finish to the Tula Mask and leaves my hydrated all day + night.

Have you tried any of the products mentioned? What are your favorite products to pamper yourself at home with?

Thanks for reading!

Make Up Forever Step 1 • Mattifying Primer

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you’re all having a great start to your Memorial Day weekend! I was trolling through my newsfeed and saw a review by Always,Bree for the CoverFX Matiffying primer which is a primer I was interested in, and at the end she asked if anyone tried the Make Up Forever Step 1 before. It reminded me that I had this review that I’ve been meaning to post for some time and what better time than now? So thank you for the reminder Bree!

Let’s get into the review shall we?

Pictured here is the Make Up Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer. This product has been extremely hyped up by beauty bloggers and bloggers everywhere. I have extremely oily skin, so I was looking forward to this becoming my new holy grail!

The product comes in a beautiful matte black squeeze tube with a precision point tip. The amount of product you receive is the standard 1 fl oz. I purchased mine from Sephora for $36.

Sephora’s website states that it “assists with balancing the skin’s texture and tone for smoother, more even, and longer-lasting makeup wear. Mattifying primer reduces shine.”

The smell of this primer was subtle and pleasant, it had a slight citrus scent in my opinion. The texture was thicker, but not as thick as the Rimmel Stay Matte or as fluid as the Hourglass Mineral Veil. It was a happy medium. I do feel this primer helped to fill in my larger pores.

I have no other positives to say about this primer. It gave my face a strange texture and prevented my foundation from looking smooth over top.

I did two tests to see if it was my mind playing tricks on me or if this raved about primer was really just a dud. Test 1: I layered this on top of my Rimmel Stay Matte to see if it worked better with another product. Result: NO NO NO, CAKE CITY. Just no. Test 2: I used Rimmel Stay Matte on one half of my face and the MUFE Mattifying Primer on the other. Result: I did not notice any difference in the longevity of my foundation. I still needed to blot around 3-4 hours. Honestly my Rimmel side held up better! The fact that my drugstore $6 primer held up better than this $36 high-end one, you better believe this was returned to Sephora. Sorry to those that love this product but it wasn’t for me and did not do anything phenomenal for my skin.

Have you tried the MUFE Step 1 primer line? If so, what were your thoughts? What are you holy grail foundation primers?

Thanks for reading!

Skin Emergency 101

Happy weekend everyone! I am so happy that it’s May, because April was NOT good to me. Last month I decided to try out a few new skincare items from a line called Nip + Fab. I’ve never tried anything from their line and I was pretty excited to get my hands on them. I purchased the Glycolic Fix Cleanser and the Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Pads. Both items were rated over 4 stars on Ulta’s website.

I definitely understand that certain products work better for certain people and I’m not quite sure why these didn’t work for me. I was extremely disappointed and will be returning them to Ulta. The purpose of this post is not to bash the brand, because I honestly do not know too much about them, but I just wanted to share my experience.

I debated posting this photo (it’s fully unedited), seeing as it’s extremely embarrassing, but I really wanted you all to understand fully the reaction that these products gave me. The type of “acne” that I get is all hormonal. I ONLY breakout on my chin and jaw line during that certain time of the month. I don’t ever break out on my forehead, ever. These products broke me out like braille there as well as on my nose…and let’s be honest, everywhere on my entire face!

These products saved my skin from that terrible breakout! I decided to cut those Nip + Fab products fully out of my regimine and went back to my holy grail Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser. I incorporated these babies in to help as an emergency!

1. Acure Brightening Facial Scrub I used this in the shower to really clean deep down in my pores and get out any gunk. Acure Organics is an amazing brand that uses 100% all natural products with 100% biodegradable packaging! Yeah, go green!

2. Murad’s Acne Spot Treatment I incorporated this after my moisturizer at night before bed. The sulfur + salicylic acid in this really helped combat the nasty breakout while I slept.

3. Mario Badescu Drying Mask this mask I used a few times during the process and immediately I noticed results, because the size of the breakout would be reduced within just a few hours of use. This mask has calamine and sulfur in it, I think my skin loves sulfur during a breakout.

Now it’s May and my skin is 75% back on track! Have you tried any of the products listed above, if so, what were your experiences? Are there any products that make you breakout like those did to me?

Thanks for reading!

Product Empties!

Happy Saturday everyone! I’ve started to run low on some of my products and thought an empties post would be ideal. I’ll write a bit about the product, my thoughts, and if I would repurchase!

1. Rimmel Stay Matte Primer if you’ve been following me for a while then you know I have very oily skin! It’s a curse and a blessing a the same time. This primer states that it is skin-perfecting, can be wore alone or under makeup. It also states it can keep you shine-free up to 8 hours, and minimize the appearance of pores. – I agree that it creates a great base of makeup, minimizes my pores, and controls shine. The consistency is really thick, but not as thick and difficult to work with as the Boots No. 7 Matte primer – that one was so thick and glue-like it broke me out. The claims that it controls shine up to 8 hours is interesting, with a strong emphasis on the “up to” part, I would say I get a good 2-3 hours before I need to blot my face. This is the best drugstore primer for oily skin that I’ve tried so far, I will repurchase for days when I don’t feel like using a high end primer.

2. Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer states that its oil-free and that it helps to treat and prevent pimples. This product contains 0.5% salicylic acid acne medication. It doesn’t really contain enough acne fighting ingredients to truly make a difference in your skin on it’s own, but it’s something to help with other methods you may be using. I really actually enjoy this moisturizer! It’s very important to have oil-free products when you have oily skin and this just feels good on the skin. It’s very inexpensive as it can be purchased for only around $5, and it lasts an extremely long time. It took me months and months to get through this bottle. I won’t be repurchasing this anytime soon, because I have actually been more into gel moisturizers rather than lotion types. But if you’re in the market for a great product that hydrates with a non-greasy feeling and you’re on a budget, this is for you!

3. Batiste Dry Shampoo states that it’s perfect for use between washes. A quick burst revitalizes hair and removes any excess oil. Hair feels gorgeously clean and fresh with added body and texture. I completely am in love with this product! I agree with all of the claims. I purchased this at Ulta for around $8 and it was the first time I tried it. Previously I tried others like Dove, Toni & Guy, Tresemme (which was the worst out of the bunch) and I was never really impressed by those. This dry shampoo is perfect and really gets the job done for a good price. I have already repurchased this baby in the tinted version for dark brown hair, because it leaves less of a “white cast” on my hair! Love love love.

4. Maybelline Fit Me concealer in shade medium. I don’t really need to get into much of an explanation about why I enjoy this product, because I just did a whole post on my top four concealers which you can read here. This was one of them listed because it’s very inexpensive, easily accessible, and perfect for every day wear. I’ve already repurchased this and it’s in my stash!

5. ELF Clarifying Pressed Powder in the shade ivory. I’ll admit that this is a strange product in my makeup collection, because I don’t use it for it’s intended purpose. The product states it’s for the treatment of acne and that it helps prevent new acne blemishes. It also contains 1.0% of salicylic acid acne medication. I purchased this product in a lighter shade and I actually use this to set my concealer under my eyes. This only costs $1 at the drugstore and it’s surprisingly buttery and rich. It’s finely milled and perfect for setting my eye area. I’ve already repurchased this product, it’s fantastic!

6. Anastasia Brow Wiz in the shade chocolate – which is the perfect color for me. Who hasn’t heard of this product? It’s fantastic and I don’t even need to tell you why! One of my favorite parts about it though is the spooly at the end to comb through my brows. It is on the pricey side and can be purchased for $21 but it is definitely worth it! At this time I won’t be repurchasing this product and may not again, thanks to a new dupe that I found for less than half the price!

Have you tried any of the products listed above – what are your thoughts? Do you have any products not listed that you would recommend?

Philosophy Total Matteness

Hello beauties! Today I’ll be bringing you a review about a skincare product I’ve had for a while now that is nearly finished. I feel that since I’ve gone through the entire bottle I’m more than comfortable expressing my thoughts. As I’ve mentioned before, I have the worlds worst oily skin. Sometimes it can be a curse, but I know later in life it will be a blessing! I went to Von Maur desperate for a product that could “cure” my issue. I was sick of putting on makeup and an hour later I would be blotting my face because the oils were out of control. The woman at the Philosophy counter expressed how much she loved this product! She had me sold, at $41 a bottle. I was hoping this would be the cure for my issue.

Here is a better look at the packaging. It comes in a beautiful glass bottle and a dropper that sucks up and disperses the product where desired. The bottle states: Now you see them, now you don’t. Watch pores pull a disappearing act. The directions simply state to apply as needed to clean dry skin. The woman at the Philosohy counter stated this product would substitute a primer and combat oils on its own to create a beautiful makeup base. I honestly disagree with her claims and I will explain why in just a moment.

Here is a better look at the actual product that you’re paying $41 for. It has a slightly thick milky consistency and has a faint smell that I can’t put my finger on. The smell isn’t unpleasant and I believe it’s safe for sensitive skin.

Does this product blur imperfections? Yes. However, I believe that it really only blurred out fine lines. The product settled into my pores and didn’t fill them in like I thought it would.

Does this product combat oiliness? Kind of. This product when applied to bare skin mattifies skin instantly. It will not last though, the longevity of this product is maybe an hour. I was told that this product could be applied on top of makeup. Do not do this, unless you want your makeup to get cakey! That will happen, I promise. I also didn’t think this product worked well in place of a primer. It just didn’t do the job for my oily skin and I still needed to apply a primer on top of this to stay matte for as long as I could before applying my makeup.

The fact that I still needed a primer and didn’t notice any increased longevity in the wear of my makeup or the amount of time before needing to blot I will absolutely not be repurchasing this product and I do not recommend it. I really wanted to love this product Philosophy, but this was a dud. Thumbs up for the packaging though!

Have you tried the Philosophy Total Matteness, if so, what were your thoughts? What are your oily skin holy grail products, I would love some recommendations! Thanks for reading.

Matte + Poreless Review

Hello beauties! I purchased the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless liquid foundation and pressed powder a few weeks ago and wanted to fully use them a good length of time before telling you my thoughts. If you’re new to my blog I will tell you now my skin type is super oily, aka grease-fest!

The foundation 310: literally went on like a dream. The consistency is amazing and doesn’t feel like I’m caking foundation on my face. The coverage is medium and is buildable to obtain a full coverage look as well. It is a semi-matte finish and beautifully diminishes pores and gives me skin an airbrushed look. I find that it keeps me semi-matte but if we are talking about drugstore foundations that have the ability to control oil most of the day, the Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous foundation would win. Even though this foundation doesn’t keep me matte as long as I would like, I will still repurchase it just because it feels so amazing on my skin. It blends like amazingly and my blush and bronzer look beautiful on top of it!

Edit

The powder 310: is a nice buttery texture. I feel that the foundation works best when paired with this vs when I try to layer on a different setting powder. These two really are built to go hand in hand. I’m not crazy about it, but it looks great with the foundation which I love!

Here’s my full face done with these two products!

Have you tried either of these products, what did you think of these babies?

XOXO, Bee
