Philosophy Total Matteness

Hello beauties! Today I’ll be bringing you a review about a skincare product I’ve had for a while now that is nearly finished. I feel that since I’ve gone through the entire bottle I’m more than comfortable expressing my thoughts. As I’ve mentioned before, I have the worlds worst oily skin. Sometimes it can be a curse, but I know later in life it will be a blessing! I went to Von Maur desperate for a product that could “cure” my issue. I was sick of putting on makeup and an hour later I would be blotting my face because the oils were out of control. The woman at the Philosophy counter expressed how much she loved this product! She had me sold, at $41 a bottle. I was hoping this would be the cure for my issue.

Here is a better look at the packaging. It comes in a beautiful glass bottle and a dropper that sucks up and disperses the product where desired. The bottle states: Now you see them, now you don’t. Watch pores pull a disappearing act. The directions simply state to apply as needed to clean dry skin. The woman at the Philosohy counter stated this product would substitute a primer and combat oils on its own to create a beautiful makeup base. I honestly disagree with her claims and I will explain why in just a moment.

Here is a better look at the actual product that you’re paying $41 for. It has a slightly thick milky consistency and has a faint smell that I can’t put my finger on. The smell isn’t unpleasant and I believe it’s safe for sensitive skin.

Does this product blur imperfections? Yes. However, I believe that it really only blurred out fine lines. The product settled into my pores and didn’t fill them in like I thought it would.

Does this product combat oiliness? Kind of. This product when applied to bare skin mattifies skin instantly. It will not last though, the longevity of this product is maybe an hour. I was told that this product could be applied on top of makeup. Do not do this, unless you want your makeup to get cakey! That will happen, I promise. I also didn’t think this product worked well in place of a primer. It just didn’t do the job for my oily skin and I still needed to apply a primer on top of this to stay matte for as long as I could before applying my makeup.

The fact that I still needed a primer and didn’t notice any increased longevity in the wear of my makeup or the amount of time before needing to blot I will absolutely not be repurchasing this product and I do not recommend it. I really wanted to love this product Philosophy, but this was a dud. Thumbs up for the packaging though!

Have you tried the Philosophy Total Matteness, if so, what were your thoughts? What are your oily skin holy grail products, I would love some recommendations! Thanks for reading.

XOXO, Bee

Perfect Spring Gloss: L’oreal!

Hello beauties! With it being officially spring and finally warming up in the Midwest, I’m excited to switch up my makeup products to reflect the change in weather. Now don’t get me wrong, my favorite look is a soultry vampy dark lip – but let’s be honest, it’s time for a color pop on the lips! I really do love drugstore products, and I came across the L’oreal Colour Riche glosses and thought now would be the perfect time to try them out. Whenever I want a simple wash of beautiful color I usually reach for my NYX Buttergloss but I have plenty of those.

I have found the perfect coral peache gloss for spring: coral encore. I was really impressed by the color payoff and the fact that I was able to build it up as well. The formula was very smooth and not sticky at all. This gloss was $8 at my local drugstore which is almost double the price of my NYX Buttergloss – womp womp. Overall, I really loved the L’oreal Colour Riche and I will definitely repurchase if there is a must have color. It is more pigmented than my NYX and the packaging is beautiful, who doesn’t love gold. These didn’t have much of a smell which is always nice, however, I do love the yummy cupcake/cookie scents of the NYX glosses. To sum everything up, if there were two of the same colors available in L’oreal or NYX I would choose NYX, because of price point and smell. Either way both of them are extremely affordable and last a long time!

I love the beautiful coral wash of color this gave my lips. I did not put any type of lip liner or lipstick down beforehand so that you all could see the true color on my naturally tinted lips. This will be my go-to color this spring!

Have you tried any of the L’oreal Colour Riche glosses – if so, what are your favorite colors? What are your go-to spring lip combos?

Liebster Award! :)

Hello beauties! I’ve been nominated by two fabulous fellow bloggers for the Liebster Award which is awesome! Charm & Chocolate and Beauty Bits are the lovely ladies that nominated me and you should definitely check out their blogs if you haven’t 🙂

The rules of the award:
1. Link back to the person that nominated you
2. Answer the questions asked by the nominator
3. Nominate 5 other bloggers with less than 200 followers
4. Create 11 questions for your nominees
5. Notify all nominees on their blogs and/or social media

My questions from Charm & Chocolate

1. What did you/will you study in college?

I studied Graphic Design and I minored in Communication Studies.

2. What is your biggest fear?

My biggest fear I would say is failure.

3. What inspired you to start your blog?

My passion and love for all things beauty! Makeup, skincare, haircare, etc…my friends and family were always asking my opinions on products and/or what things they could do to help their problem areas. I just love helping others.

4. What’s your favorite skin care product?

My fave skincare product is my Neutrogena Fresh Foaming facial cleanser. This stuff is my HOLY GRAIL product and is something that is overlooked by most people in the store and on beauty blogs. It takes off all of my facial and eye makeup with ease and is safe for my eyes (I wear contacts) and never burns either. It’s a great cleanser for all skin types. I love it! 🙂

5. If you were a character from a TV show or movie, who would you be?

That’s such a hard choice! I would probably want to be Brooke Davis from One Tree Hill or Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl. I love those characters so much and those are two of my all-time favorite shows.

6. Who is your biggest role model?

Yikes, I honestly thought long and hard and I don’t have one. I’m a big believer in the fact that you need to live your life for yourself and if something doesn’t feel right then don’t do it. I never look up to others or seek opinions that decide my fate.

7. Where is the farthest place you’ve traveled to?

Mexico for our honeymoon.

8. Coffee or tea?

Coffee, love a good cup of joe!

9. What was your most embarrassing moment?

Probably when I had an anxiety attack before my performance final during college. I had to reschedule and do it the next class.

10. Do you have pets? If so, what are their names?

My husband has this annoying fish we named Dexter, but I don’t claim him as my own lol.

11. If you watch beauty vloggers on Youtube, who is your favorite?

Such a tough choice. I love Casey Holmes, Jaclyn Hill, Thataylaa, and Manny MUA.

My questions from Beauty Bits

1. Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging to help other ladies find products they might like or they should stay away from. I wanted to freely express myself in an artistic way.

2. Who is your favorite blogger and why?

My favorite blogger is hard to choose, but I really enjoy reading posts from Always, Bree. She blogs really often and uses a variety of topics such as beauty, skincare, cooking, style, and simply being a mom! 🙂

3. Sweet or salty foods?

I have the world’s largest sweet tooth. Just call me cookie monster.

4. Favorite/most delicious food you’ve ever tasted?

Sushi. Sushi. Sushi. I also like spaghetti.

5. Do you have a secret talent?

Sadly, I don’t.

6. When you’re having a terrible day, what will brighten it?

My husband. He is one of the most unique and hilarious people I have ever met. Probably why I fell in love with him 🙂 — A glass of red wine never hurt anyone, and some dark chocolate.

7. Number one thing on your bucket list right now?

Traveling, I need to explore more of the world.

I now wish to nominate my favorite bloggers on WordPress and I’m sorry if you’ve already been nominated before, but I just love your posts! Always, Bree, Fi’s Little Blog, With Her Coffee In Hand, HannahRoseBeautyXO, and Glowing Doll.

Here are my questions for you all:

1. What is your must-have beauty product that you can’t live without?

2. Who is your favorite Youtuber or beauty blogger?

3. If you could visit one place in the world where would you choose?

4. What song can you currently obsessed with?

5. Where are you from?

6. What is your favorite season and why?

7. What is your favorite skincare product?

8. What is your favorite overall makeup brand?

9. What is your favorite color?

10. What is your favorite show of all time?

11. What product could you not leave the house without applying?

Hope you all enjoyed learning a little bit more about me! I’m excited to see your posts and I do love reading your blogs. You’re all inspiring 🙂

Milani Moisture Matte

Hello beauties! I wanted to blog about an obsession that I currently have for Milani Moisture Matte lipsticks. These lipsticks are unbelievable. I’m not usually one to splurge for a high-end lippie, I just think the drugstore is an amazing place to find products and I usually can’t tell a difference! I came across these amazing babies at my CVS (but one get one half off) and I am in love. The formula is unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. Usually matte lipsticks feel so dry and chalky it’s like your lips are frozen and it feels unnatural to move them around. No one has time for that! These moisture matte lipsticks give a matte look without the all the uncomfortability! They are so beautiful when swatched and even more gorgeous on the lips.

Here are the two colors I picked up: on the left is 61 Matte Naked and the right is 67 Matte Confident. They are so pigmented and last a long time. These only retail for about $5 each and in my opinion are better than MAC matte lipsticks! That’s right.

It is so hard to find a good nude lipstick when you’re tan, because our lips are already tinted. This Matte Naked is literally a “my lips but better” nude for me, I am so lucky I found this shade!

Have you tried the Milani Moisture Matte lipsticks? What are your favorite lipstick brands/shades?

Matte + Poreless Review

Hello beauties! I purchased the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless liquid foundation and pressed powder a few weeks ago and wanted to fully use them a good length of time before telling you my thoughts. If you’re new to my blog I will tell you now my skin type is super oily, aka grease-fest!

The foundation 310: literally went on like a dream. The consistency is amazing and doesn’t feel like I’m caking foundation on my face. The coverage is medium and is buildable to obtain a full coverage look as well. It is a semi-matte finish and beautifully diminishes pores and gives me skin an airbrushed look. I find that it keeps me semi-matte but if we are talking about drugstore foundations that have the ability to control oil most of the day, the Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous foundation would win. Even though this foundation doesn’t keep me matte as long as I would like, I will still repurchase it just because it feels so amazing on my skin. It blends like amazingly and my blush and bronzer look beautiful on top of it!

Edit

The powder 310: is a nice buttery texture. I feel that the foundation works best when paired with this vs when I try to layer on a different setting powder. These two really are built to go hand in hand. I’m not crazy about it, but it looks great with the foundation which I love!

Here’s my full face done with these two products!

Have you tried either of these products, what did you think of these babies?

XOXO, Bee
